Reda Al-Ghandour, the formal speaker of Alexandria Port Authority, said that all the departments of the Port raised the degree of readiness and full attention all the time in anticipation of the bad weather wave, Captain \ Tarik Shahen Chairman of the Alexandria Port Authority directed in coordination with all companies, agencies and operating authorities in the port to raise the degree of readiness and full watchfulness all the time, follow the requirements of safety and occupational health, follow the correct methods in storing, loading and unloading work during this wave in order to preserve lives and property. Al Ghandour added that the drainage rooms and paths were inspected to eliminate completely the accumulation of water whether in the area or berths, in order to preserve the cargoes and goods in the areas, Main electric transformers and backup generators were also reviewed to ensure the continuity of the electronic interconnection devices if the main power goes out, the guide's launches, tugs, rescue units, fire extinguishers, ambulances, as well as all other marine units to be prepared and be fully ready to receive distress signals and deal with them immediately. Captain \ Shaheen stressed on the readiness of the operations center and crisis management in the port around the clock and the necessity of its permanent contact with the governorate's operations centers, the police, maritime transport sector, Ministry of Transport, radio of the port, ships, movement departments and other concerned authorities, alerting the ships inside the port and at the berths to be in expectation and tobe ready to move in any direction and at any time depending on the change in wind speed and direction. Captain \ Tarek Shaheen said that the departments of movement and maritime services prepared the Pilotage boats to be ready for any maneuvers to enter, exit or move any ship for any emergency circumstance, stressing the readiness of the specialists in the port to make maneuvers for tourist ships, livestock ships and ships carrying strategic goods such as diesel and Gasoil, ships that got malfunctions which are difficult to deal with in the anchor area and like this cases. Shaheen added that the marine rescue units and marine pollution units are ready and prepared around the clock to remove any marine or land pollution that occurs as a result of bad weather. Shaheen said that the number of shifts and training of workers have been increased to continue working for longer times in order to ensure the continuation of work and do not stop if rainy weather or bad weather hindered the arrival of workers to the port, as the security presence on buildings, gates, berths, yards and ships left on the berths was also intensified providing ambulance around the clock inside and outside the port. 12-3-2020
