The memorandum of understanding was signed on the Egyptian side by Rear Admiral Nihad Shaheen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Port Authority, and on the Chinese side by Mrs. Yuan Yu, Deputy Director General of the Chinese Guangzhou Port Authority. On the sidelines of the activities of the Middle East and Africa Transport Conference and Exhibition, another fraternity agreement was signed between the General Authority of Alexandria Port and the Chinese Port of Qingdao, which includes the exchange of cooperation and expertise in the fields of port management and green and smart port systems. The signing of these agreements comes within the framework of supporting various aspects of cooperation between Egypt and China in the field of maritime transport, and enhancing Egypt’s participation in the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative, especially as it comes a few days after the visit of the Egyptian Minister of Transport, Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir, to China in October 2023, where he participated in a forum The Belt and Road International Transport Development Initiative and a number of meetings were held with Chinese officials to discuss cooperation between Egypt and China in various fields of transport. The Minister of Transport stated that the memorandum of understanding with the Port of Guangzhou includes the exchange of information, the transfer of expertise, advertising and promotion, and support for trade exchange and shipping lines, in addition to cooperation to reach the optimal application of green and smart port concepts, pointing out that the Port of Alexandria and the Port of Guangzhou had previously signed a letter of intent in November 2021. He added that the signing of these agreements represents a qualitative leap in cooperation between Egypt and China in the field of maritime transport, and an important step towards strengthening the operational capabilities of Egyptian ports and maximizing the competitiveness of those ports at the global level, adding that these agreements contribute to facilitating the movement of trade between Egypt and China and increasing the volume of trade exchange. In light of the strategic relations between the two countries, Pointing to the continuous work of the Egyptian side to enhance work with the Chinese side to exchange experiences and reach new horizons of cooperation in various fields of transport, including the maritime transport sector.” For his part, Rear Admiral Nihad Shaheen, Chairman of the Alexandria Port Authority, said that these agreements come within the framework of the Alexandria Port Authority’s keenness to enhance cooperation with the ports of friendly countries, in a way that contributes to the development of the maritime transport system, and that they will open new horizons for cooperation between the Grand Port of Alexandria and the ports of Guangzhou and Qingdao, in Various fields of port work
