The General Authority of Alexandria Port succeeded in achieving the highest handling rate of transit containers in its history, as statistical indicators confirmed for the first half of 2023 that the ports of Alexandria and Dekheila achieved a significant increase during the period from January 1 to June 30, 2023, by 96%, compared to the same period of 2022
These increases are within the framework of the directives of the political leadership to transform Egypt into a global logistics center and the close follow-up of Lieutenant General / Kamel Al-Wazir - Minister of Transport for sea ports, especially the Alexandria Port Authority, as it is the largest port of the Republic, which has taken many measures recently headed by Rear Admiral Nihad Shaheen to encourage Transit trade, most notably:
• Holding many meetings and extended consultation sessions with members of the port community (shipping agencies, station operators, shipping and unloading companies, exporters and importers, customs, … etc.) to identify and overcome obstacles, review demands and development proposals and coordinate with the various concerned authorities in the country.
.Coordination and external cooperation at the international level with stakeholders and a number of foreign ports to attract transit trade and work to launch fixed shipping lines.
• Full coordination with the Egyptian Customs Authority to take actual measures to facilitate the transit trade, which showed full cooperation, which resulted but not limited .
.Coordination has been made with the storage companies in the ports of Alexandria and Dekheila to provide yards designated for transit, which have expressed their readiness to receive transit containers in large numbers within yards designated for that purpose.
.Providing the possibility of direct dealings with customers on the authority's electronic system online to provide services and receive requests for transit.
. Allowing transit to be included on the customs authority’s window system, which has been linked to the electronic system of the Alexandria Port Authority, in coordination with the navigation chambers, within the framework of governance, transparency, and the state’s directives towards tightening control over border crossings in order to preserve the state’s hard currency resources and to preserve public security and the state’s capabilities. The Egyptian through the availability of complete and instantaneous data on containers, goods and parcels on its territory.
. Providing all necessary facilities and discounts to encourage transit trade, including the creation of a customer service center whose tasks include receiving documents, receiving requests and complaints, and providing the possibility of electronic payment. A reduction was granted on transit goods fees according to Resolution 416, with a reduction rate of 20%.
All these procedures come in parallel with the General Authority of Alexandria Port, in implementation of the assignments of the Lieutenant General / Minister of Transport and headed by Rear Admiral Nihad Shaheen - to raise its capabilities and capabilities through developing the work system and strengthening the marine services fleet with new marine units of tugboats, boats and pollution control units, as well as The implementation of a huge number of giant investment and development projects, which, upon completion, will make the Great Port of Alexandria one of the largest ports on the Mediterranean, a regional logistics center and an international strategic link between Africa, Asia and Europe
