Great activity in the movement of goods and navigation at the Alexandria Port Authority during November 2024

Within the framework of the directives of Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport towards continuous work to develop performance rates in Egyptian ports, in order to achieve the vision of transforming into a global center for transportation, trade and logistics. The movement of goods handling at the Alexandria Port Authority witnessed a significant increase during the month of November 2024 compared to November 2023 in all types of goods, as general goods topped the list of goods that witnessed a qualitative leap during the month of November by an increase of 52.1%, as approximately 750.2 thousand tons were traded during the aforementioned month, while approximately 493.1 thousand tons were traded during the same month in 2023. Liquid bulk goods also witnessed a significant increase in the volume of trading during the month of November 2024 compared to November 2023 by approximately 41.8%, as approximately 839.2 thousand tons were traded during this month, while 592 thousand tons were traded during the same month in 2023. Dry bulk cargo came in third place in terms of the percentage of increase, as it witnessed an increase during November 2024 compared to November 2023 by approximately 38.4%, as approximately 2.7 million tons were traded during this month, while 1.9 million tons were traded during the same month in 2023. As for containerized cargo, it witnessed an increase of 7.8% during November 2024 compared to November 2023, as approximately 2 million tons were traded during the month, while 1.8 million tons were traded during November of the previous year, as the number of containers amounted to approximately 187 thousand containers. These increases in the movement of trading various types of goods resulted in an increase in the total trading volume during November 2024 to 6.2 million tons, an increase of 28.7% compared to November 2023. In a related context, ship traffic also witnessed a significant increase during November 2024 compared to November 2023, with liquid bulk ships leading the ship types with the highest increase by 46.1% with a total number of 57 ships, followed by dry bulk ships in the percentage of increase over the same month of the previous year by approximately 30%, then ferries by 15.3% and container ships by an increase of 6%. In general, the percentage of increase in total ship traffic at the port amounted to 4.8% during November 2024 compared to November 2023, with the number of ships reaching 454 ships. These increases in trading rates and navigation movement come under the instructions and directives of Major General Ahmed Abdel Moaty Hawash, Chairman of the Board of Directors, to achieve professionalism in performing work and providing all means of technical and operational support during towing and guidance operations by guides, guidance crews and marine units, as well as follow-up and monitoring through advanced technical systems in the guidance tower and the Authority’s employees following advanced technological methods to quickly complete procedures related to the docking and departure of ships and raise the standard rates for loading and unloading operations and the continuous effort to reduce congestion in the port.
