Alexandria Port Authority is witnessing a huge increase in ship traffic and cargo handling in September 2021

Alexandria Port Authority managed to achieve a significant leap in the handling ratios during the month of September of this year compared to September of the previous year, as the quantities of handled cargoes witnessed an increase of 33%. General Cargoes were at the forefront of the cargos that witnessed an increase during the month of September, with an increase of 47% over the same month of the previous year, followed by the increase in the amount of liquid bulk cargoes of petroleum and liquid strategic cargoes by 40%; 125 thousand TEUs were handled in Alexandria and Dekheila ports, with a total weight of 2.1 million tons. Volume of cargoes exported through Alexandria Port Authority reached to be 1.7 million tons during September 2021. On the other hand, the maritime traffic of ships called on Alexandria Port Authority witnessed an increase during September 2021 compared to its counterpart in 2020, especially ferries with an increase of 41.1%, followed by liquid bulk ships by approximately 29.3%; rate of increase in dry bulk ships reached to be 28%; three cruise passenger ships were received, bringing the total number of ships visiting Alexandria and Dekheila ports of various classifications during the month of September to 336 ships. These significant increases in the rates of circulation and navigation traffic for the month of September 2021 come in light of the instructions and directives of Captain / Tariq Shaheen, Chairman of the Board of Directors - to achieve professionalism in the performance of work by the pilot and towing crews in the port, as well as the adoption of advanced technology methods by the authority’s employees to speed up the procedures related to the docking and departure of ships Raising the standard rates of loading and unloading operations and continuously striving to reduce congestion in the port.
