Alexandria Port Authority receives a multinational delegation to enhance areas of joint cooperation

Alexandria Port Authority received a delegation from the French Agency for Sustainable Mediterranean Cities and Regions (AVITEM), headed by the agency's director and including multiple nationalities: French, Italian, Moroccan, Algerian, Tunisian and Egyptian; The visit aims to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation with the agency specialized in the development of the Mediterranean region, which is to contribute to the establishment of a community of sustainable development and solidarity across the Mediterranean, and to formulate new models capable of facing the serious challenges facing the Mediterranean countries, developing projects, combating climate change and adapting to it, and the need to take into account health security, flexibility, and social and regional cohesion. The delegation was received by Major General Ahmed Abdel Moaty Hawash, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Port Authority, and Major General Hesham Safwat, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for Operations and specialists at the Authority, who were keen to convey the welcome of Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, Minister of Industry and Transport, and his directives towards enhancing means of joint cooperation and opening new horizons to benefit from global expertise in various fields. The discussions included the strategic vision of the Port of Alexandria and the Egyptian seaports system, the development and expansion projects at the port, its capabilities and capacity, as well as the focus on the societal role of the port and its role in supporting the activities of Alexandria Governorate by building and operating three bridges to directly connect the port gates to the Marshal Abu Zekry Axis in order to reduce the traffic burden on the governorate and prevent the congestion of trucks on its roads, as well as the societal role in the field of training, providing job opportunities, protecting the marine environment and transforming into a green port. The visit also included a presentation of the port's projects and plans, a field tour of the historic port museum, the marine passenger terminal, and some of the port's docks, then a visit to the Tahya Misr multi-purpose terminal, which is managed by TMT, which includes the alliance of the Egyptian Multi-Purpose Terminals Group and the French CMA CGM line, one of the largest global lines. A meeting was held with the company's executive management to highlight the station's role in enhancing the movement of goods and ships, especially transit, at the port of Alexandria since its presidential opening in June 2023 until now. The visit concluded with a field tour of the Tahya Misr docks, where the delegation expressed its sincere thanks to the Alexandria Port Authority for its professionalism in performing its work, and praised the developments it is witnessing at various levels, whether in terms of operations or business performance standards and its connection to multi-modal transport, ensuring smooth procedures and the port's distinguished societal role. It was also agreed to continue coordination to lay strong and specific foundations for cooperation and mutual benefit.
