Alexandria Port Authority succeeded in 2024 in achieving the highest rates of ship and cargo movement in its history, as the total quantities of goods traded reached 74.4 million tons during 2024 compared to 58.4 million tons in 2023, a difference of 16 million tons, an increase of 27.4%. A significant leap was achieved in the quantities of liquid bulk cargo traded, as the total traded during 2024 reached about 9.4 million tons compared to the volume of liquid bulk traded in 2023, which amounted to 5 million tons, an increase of 88%. A significant increase was also achieved in the quantities of dry bulk cargo traded, as the total traded during 2024 reached about 31.8 million tons compared to the volume of dry bulk traded in 2023, which amounted to 23.7 million tons, an increase of 34.2%. As for the number of containers, it also witnessed a remarkable growth, as the total number of containers handled during 2024 reached about 2.4 million TEUs, compared to the number of TEUs in 2023, which amounted to 1.7 million tons, by 31.6%, and the increase in the quantities of containerized goods amounted to 12.1%, as 25 million tons of containerized goods were handled during 2024. An increase was achieved in the quantities of general cargo handled, as the total handled during 2024 amounted to about 8.1 million tons, compared to the volume handled in 2023, which amounted to 7.4 million tons, by an increase of 9.5%. As for the movement of ships, it also witnessed historical rates, as the number of ships that visited the ports of Alexandria and Dekheila during 2024 amounted to 5,380 ships, compared to 4,701 ships in 2023, by an increase of 14.4%, with a total of 679 additional ships. In this context, liquid bulk vessels topped the list of vessels that witnessed a significant increase during 2024, with an increase of 37.6% compared to 2023, as 604 vessels were received during 2023, compared to 439 vessels in the previous year. Dry bulk vessel frequency rates also witnessed a significant increase during 2024, with an increase of 26.4% compared to 2023, as 814 vessels were received during 2024, compared to 644 vessels in the previous year. Ferry frequency rates also increased significantly during 2024, with an increase of 21.6% compared to 2023, as 169 ferries were received during 2024, compared to 139 ferries in the previous year. Container bulk ships came in fourth place among the types of ships that witnessed a significant increase during 2024 compared to 2023, with an increase rate of 20.6%, as 2021 ships were received during 2024 compared to 1676 ships in the previous year. These increases in trading rates and navigation traffic come in light of the Alexandria Port Authority's implementation of the directives of Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir - Minister of Transport - and the port's witnessing of a number of huge investment and development projects, as well as an increase in the percentage of exports by 30%.
