The movement of goods handling in the Alexandria Port General Authority witnessed a remarkable increase in most types of goods during October of this year compared to October 2021, where general goods topped the list of goods that witnessed a significant increase of 35%. The movement of containerized goods also witnessed an increase in the volume of handling during the month of October of this year compared to October of the year 2021 by 16.7%, as more than 2.1 million tons of almost containerized goods were handled. Exports accounted for 27% of the total handling of goods, and the ports of Morocco, Italy and Mali are the most exported ports through Alexandria port this month. In a related context, the movement of ships, in turn, witnessed a remarkable increase during the month of October 2022 compared to October of the previous year, where tourism ships topped the most types of ships, with a rise of 75%, followed by an increase in the percentage of the same month of the previous year, container ships by 29.2%, then liquid bulk ships. By 11.1%, bringing the total percentage of increases in vessel traffic during the same period by 4.7%. These increases in the rates of handling and navigation movement done under the instructions and directives of Mr. Rear Admiral / Nihad Shaheen, Chairman of the Board of Directors - to achieve professionalism in the performance of work by the pilot and towing crews in the port, as well as the adoption by the Authority’s employees of advanced technology methods to speed up the procedures related to the docking and departure of ships and raise the standard rates For loading and unloading operations and the continuous quest to reduce congestion in the port.
