The Alexandria Port Authority today welcomed the giant vessel WEN JING KOU (IMO registration number 9997555), one of the world's largest LNG-powered Ro-Ro vessels. This event reflects the port's technical and operational readiness to receive the latest and largest environmentally friendly marine vessels. The vessel was received by the Alexandria Port Authority's leadership, headed by Rear Admiral, Chairman of the Board. It docked at berth number 9, one of the port's multiple berths specializing in Ro-Ro cargo handling. The berthing and securing operations were carried out according to the highest technical and navigational standards, under the direct supervision of the port's traffic and maritime services leadership, with the participation of the Authority's pilots and pilot tugboats, ensuring the safety of the vessel and crew and the efficiency of operations. The 200-meter-long WEN JING KOU, with a draft exceeding 9 meters, boasts advanced operational capabilities. Belonging to the class of large PCTC (Pan Carrier Truck and Carrier) vessels, it has a capacity of up to 9,000 vehicles and operates on a dual propulsion system powered by liquefied natural gas. This contributes to reducing carbon emissions and adhering to international environmental standards issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), aligning with the Egyptian government's efforts to support green maritime transport and enhance environmental sustainability in its ports. The Port Authority affirmed that the successful reception of this modern vessel reflects the efficiency of Alexandria Port's infrastructure, the development of its pilotage, towing, and berthing systems, and the readiness of its berths to accommodate large vessels, including specialized Ro-Ro berths. This reinforces the port's position as a pivotal hub for international trade in the Mediterranean. This event comes as part of the Authority's strategy to maximize the port's competitiveness, attract global shipping lines, and enhance its ability to handle the latest generations of specialized vessels, thereby contributing to supporting the national economy and raising the efficiency of supply chains.
