The movement of goods handling at the General Authority of Alexandria Port witnessed a significant increase during the month of March 2024 compared to the month of March 2023, as liquid bulk goods topped the forefront of goods that witnessed a huge increase during the month of March by 55.9%, as approximately 673 thousand tons were traded during the aforementioned month, while Approximately 432 thousand tons were traded during the same month of 2023. The movement of dry bulk goods, in turn, witnessed a significant increase in trading volume during the month of March 2024 compared to the month of March 2023, by approximately 30%, as 2.6 million tons were traded during this month, while 2 million tons were traded during the same month in 2023. Contained goods came in third place in terms of the percentage of increase, as they witnessed an increase of 17.1% during the month of March 2024 compared to the month of March 2023, as well as general goods, which witnessed an increase of 10.2% over the same period. These increases in the trading movement of various types of goods resulted in an increase in the total trading volume during the month of March 2024 to 6.4 million tons, an increase of 24.8% compared to the month of March 2023. In a related context, ship traffic, in turn, witnessed a noticeable increase during the month of March 2024 compared to the month of March 2023, as container ships topped the highest type of ships by 23.5%, with a total number of 189 ships, followed by the percentage of increase over the same month of the previous year by general cargo ships by 9.6%. almost. The percentage of increase in the number of liquid bulk ships during the month of March 2024 compared to the month of March 2023 was about 4.8%. In general, the percentage of increase in the total ship movement in the port reached 12.6% during the month of March 2024 compared to the month of March 2023, with 455 ships.
