In the framework of the directives of Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport towards continuous work to develop performance rates in Egyptian ports in order to achieve the vision of transforming into a global center for transportation, trade and logistics. The movement of goods handled at the Alexandria Port Authority witnessed a significant increase during October 2024 compared to October 2023 in all types of goods, as liquid bulk goods topped the list of goods that witnessed huge leap during October by an increase of 74%, as approximately 845.6 thousand tons were traded during the aforementioned month, while approximately 486 thousand tons were handled during the same month in 2023. Dry bulk goods also witnessed a significant increase handling volume during October 2024 compared to October 2023 by approximately 57.9%, as approximately 3 million tons were traded during this month, while 1.9 million tons were traded during the same month in 2023. General cargo came in third place in terms of the percentage of increase, as it witnessed an increase during October 2024 compared to October 2023 by approximately 49.2%, as approximately 893.5 thousand tons were traded during this month, while 598.7 thousand tons were traded during the same month in 2023. As for containerized cargo, it witnessed an increase of 8.8% during October 2024 compared to October 2023, as approximately 2.1 million tons were traded during the month, while 1.9 million tons were traded during October of the previous year, as the number of containers constituted approximately 179 thousand containers. These increases in the movement of trading various types of goods resulted in an increase in the total handling volume during October 2024 to 6.8 million tons, an increase of 38.8% compared to October 2023. In a related context, ship traffic also witnessed a significant increase during October 2024 compared to October 2023, with dry bulk ships leading the ship types with the highest increase of 64.7% with a total number of 84 ships, followed by liquid bulk ships with an increase of approximately 30.4% over the same month of the previous year, then container ships with an increase of 9%. In general, the percentage of increase in total ship traffic at the port reached 12.4% during October 2024 compared to October 2023, with the number of ships reaching 461 ships. These increases in trading rates and navigation movement come under the instructions and directives of Major General Ahmed Abdel Moaty Hawash, Chairman of the Board of Directors, to achieve professionalism in performing work and providing all means of technical and operational support during towing and guidance operations by guides, guidance crews and marine units, as well as follow-up and monitoring through advanced technical systems in the guidance tower and the Authority’s employees following advanced technological methods to quickly complete procedures related to the docking and departure of ships and raise the standard rates for loading and unloading operations and the continuous effort to reduce congestion in the port.
