As part of the state's efforts to support and stimulate maritime tourism, and in implementation of the political leadership's directives to increase the number of tourist trips arriving at Egyptian ports, Alexandria Port received the MS Oosterdam cruise ship today, Monday, August 11, 2025, arriving from the Greek port of Piraeus.The Dutch-flagged MS Oosterdam, operated by Inchcape Shipping, docked at the port's passenger terminal at 6:00 a.m., carrying a total of 2,888 passengers, including 2,105 tourists and 783 crew members. The ship is scheduled to depart the port on Tuesday evening, August 12, bound for the Cypriot port of Limassol.The ship was received by a number of leaders from the Alexandria Port Authority, including representatives from the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority, and the Alexandria Governorate, as well as relevant security authorities. This was part of the joint coordination to ensure a smooth reception and swift completion of procedures.
The Authority ensured the safe entry and escort of the vessel from its approach to the port via tugs and pilot boats, under the direct supervision of the radar guidance tower, while taking all technical and security measures in accordance with the highest approved safety standards.The General Administration of Passenger Traffic supervised the reception of the tourists and facilitated their disembarkation procedures, allowing them to begin their tour of the city. This included visits to Alexandria's most prominent archaeological and cultural landmarks, amid a welcoming atmosphere and the distribution of souvenirs, emphasizing the Authority's commitment to enhancing the tourist experience and promoting maritime tourism in Egyptian ports globally.
