Major General Ahmed Hawash, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Port Authority, participated today, Wednesday, 9/4/2024, in the opening of the activities of the Fourth International Logistics Camp, organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in El Alamein under the name of Artificial Intelligence in Logistics, which includes the leaders of the maritime transport industry, logistics, digitization and artificial intelligence, and many investors and specialized companies. Major General Ahmed Hawash stated during his speech during the opening session that there has been a growing importance of artificial intelligence and information technology in the maritime transport sector due to its impact on increasing efficiency and productivity, reducing human errors, improving logistics management processes, enhancing security and safety, providing a better customer experience, and facilitating customs clearance, reservation and shipping procedures. He added that the Alexandria Port Authority has already made great strides in using artificial intelligence, especially in the field of cybersecurity, and that work is currently underway at the Alexandria Port Authority to use artificial intelligence and digitization in one of the most important and largest projects taking place at Dekheila Port, which is located on an area of approximately 1.26 million square meters, which is the Tahya Misr 2 multi-purpose station on Berth 100 Which will be the first semi-automated stations in Egypt and the most technologically advanced. He also stated during his speech that the Alexandria Port Authority is currently studying the mechanisms and axes of using artificial intelligence in many areas related to improving logistics operations such as using artificial intelligence to improve ship docking plans, cargo flow, movement management within the port, predictive maintenance, security, monitoring and energy management. At the end of his speech, he stressed that Egypt, thanks to the vision of its future and ambitious political leadership, is striving to occupy an advanced position in this field, and that, based on the directives of Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir - Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, Minister of Industry and Transport - many initiatives and projects have already been implemented that aim to apply these technologies in our ports, which contributes to strengthening our position as a global center for transportation, trade and logistics. In a related context, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport honored Major General Ahmed Hawash - Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Port Authority and a number of figures in the maritime transport and logistics industry for their distinguished efforts and contributions to the development of the Egyptian ports and maritime transport system, which contributes to the growth of the Egyptian national economy.
