Alexandria Port Authority's exports increased by 44% during August 2024

The Alexandria Port Authority stated that the movement of goods and navigation witnessed a significant increase and activity during the month of August 2024 compared to August 2023 As the movement of goods traded by 34% during the month of August 2024 with a total trading volume exceeding 6.3 million tons, and liquid bulk goods topped the list of goods that witnessed a huge jump during the month of August with an increase of 155.7%, as approximately 865.9 thousand tons were traded during the mentioned month, while approximately 338.7 thousand tons were traded during the same month in 2023, due to the significant increase in export quantities by approximately 327.1%, which reflects the remarkable success of the state's policies towards transforming into a global hub for trade and logistics Al-Mahwa also witnessed a significant increase in trading volume during the month of August 2024 compared to August 2023 by approximately 33.3%, as approximately 2 million tons were traded during this month, while 1.5 million tons were traded during the same month of 2023, and the increase in the number of containers traded amounted to 68.4%. Dry bulk cargo came in third place in terms of the increase rate, as it witnessed an increase of 28.6% during August 2024 compared to August 2023, as approximately 2.7 million tons were traded during the month, while 2.1 million tons were traded during August of the previous year. It is worth noting that the total goods exported from the ports of Alexandria and Dekheila during August 2024 amounted to 2.3 million tons, an increase of 43.8% over August 2023, which had recorded exports of 1.6 million tons. In a related context, the statement issued by the Alexandria Port Authority included that ship traffic witnessed a significant increase during August 2024 compared to August 2023, as liquid bulk ships topped the highest type of ships by 36.8% with a total number of 52 ships, followed by dry bulk ships by approximately 28.6% in the same month of the previous year. The percentage of increase in the number of container ships during August 2024 compared to August 2023 amounted to about 13.5%, followed by general cargo ships by an increase of 2.3%. In general, the percentage of increase in the total ship traffic at the port amounted to 14.1% during August 2024 compared to August 2023, as the number of ships reached 456 ships. These increases come within the framework of the directives of Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport towards continuous work to develop performance rates in Egyptian ports in order to achieve the vision of transforming into a global center for transportation, trade and logistics. Major General Ahmed Abdel Moaty Hawash, Chairman of the Board of Directors, issued his instructions to all departments concerned with the ports of Alexandria and Dekheila to achieve professionalism in performing work and to provide all means of technical and operational support during towing and guidance operations by guides and marine unit crews, as well as follow-up and monitoring through advanced technical systems in the guidance tower and for the Authority’s employees to follow advanced technological methods to quickly complete procedures related to the docking and departure of ships and raise the standard rates for loading and unloading cargo operations and to continuously strive to reduce congestion in the port and to communicate constantly with customers.
