The General Authority of Alexandria Port returns to the Lloyd's List of the world's best ports issued in 2021

The efforts of the General Authority of Alexandria Port, by taking all coordination with Lloyd's Organization, succeeded in re-listing the authority on Lloyd's list of the world's best ports issued in 2021, which depends in its classification mainly on the volume of container handling. It is noteworthy that the port of Alexandria has been removed from this classification during the past two years, not because of the decline in performance rates in the port, but due to the misperception that marred the concept of those responsible for the classification of considering both the ports of Alexandria and Dekheila as separate ports belonging to two independent entities; Which led to dividing the total volume of container handling between them instead of calculating it in aggregate as the trading volume of the Alexandria Port Authority. The authority, under the directives of Mr. Captain / Tarek Shaheen, Chairman of the Board of Directors - has taken all necessary measures to correct that concept and to clarify that the ports of Alexandria and Dekheila are two administrative divisions affiliated to one entity, which is the General Authority of Alexandria Port This resulted in the re-inclusion of the Alexandria Port Authority in the list of the best ports in the world issued in 2021; Where the detail of the statement issued by Lloyd's Organization indicated that the port of Alexandria is one of the most important ports in the eastern Mediterranean, and handles approximately 60% of the foreign trade of the Arab Republic of Egypt. There are also two main operators of container handling terminals in the port in Alexandria and Dekheila ports. However, another global operator, CMA CGM, is scheduled to join the Tahya Misr station (the multi-purpose station on berths 55-62), which is located on an area of 560 thousand square meters and has berths length of 2.5 km and a handling capacity of 1.5 million TEUs. Approximately The statement issued by the Alexandria Port Authority included that there is a multi-purpose terminal for other purposes, executive measures are being taken to establish it on berth 100 in Dekheila port, which will be able to handle between 9 to 11 million tons of embeded goods with a total area of 660 thousand m2 and berth depths of up to to 18 meters This is in addition to a large number of other projects that will collectively enhance the trading capabilities of the General Authority of Alexandria Port when completed, which will make it the largest sea port on the Mediterranean. 16/2/2022
