The General Authority of Alexandria Port succeeded, for the third time, in achieving the highest rates of ship and cargo movement in its history during the year 2023/2024.

During the fiscal year 2023/2024, the General Authority of Alexandria Port succeeded in achieving a boom in ship frequency rates, reaching unprecedented levels of 5,180 ships compared to 4,159 ships for the fiscal year 2022/2023, an increase of 24.5%, with a total of 1,021 additional ships. In this context, container ships were at the forefront of ships that witnessed a significant increase during the fiscal year 2023/2024, with an increase of approximately 30% over the fiscal year 2022/2023, as 1,921 ships were received compared to 1,478 ships in the previous year. The frequency rates of liquid bulk vessels also witnessed a significant increase during the fiscal year 2023/2024, with an increase of approximately 23.4% over the fiscal year 2022/2023, as 511 vessels were received compared to 414 vessels in the previous year. Also, the frequency rates of general cargo ships increased significantly during the fiscal year 2023/2024, with an increase of approximately 18.4% over the fiscal year 2022/2023, followed in fourth place by dry bulk ships, which witnessed a noticeable increase with an increase of 12.8%, then ferries, with an increase of approximately 8.2%. from the previous year. In a related context, another unprecedented increase was achieved in the rates of handling goods of various types, as the ports of Alexandria and Dekheila achieved a trading volume of 65.4 million tons of goods during the fiscal year 2023/2024, an increase of 10% over the previous fiscal year 2022/2023. Liquid bulk cargo recorded the most significant increase during the fiscal year 2023/2024, with an increase of 52%, amounting to 6.8 million tons, compared to 4.4 million tons in the fiscal year 2022/2023. General merchandise trading volumes also witnessed a noticeable increase, as the total traded during the fiscal year 2023/2024 reached about 7.3 million tons, compared to the general merchandise trading volume in the fiscal year 2022/2023, which amounted to 6.1 million tons, an increase of 27%. Dry bulk goods ranked third in terms of trading volume, which amounted to 27.3 million tons during the fiscal year 2023/2024, a 13% increase over the fiscal year 2022/2023. As for the number of containers traded during the same period, it reached 2 million equivalent containers compared to the number The equivalent containers in the previous fiscal year 2022/2023 amounted to 1.5 million tons, an increase of 37.4%. These increases in trading rates and navigation traffic come in light of the Alexandria Port Authority’s implementation of the directives of Mr. Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir - Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport - and the implementation of a number of huge projects that the port has witnessed, as well as the Alexandria Port Authority’s keenness to achieve professionalism in performance. Work and providing all means of technical and operational support during towing and pilotage operations by pilots, pilotage crews, and marine units, as well as follow-up and control through the advanced technical systems in the pilotage tower, and the Authority’s employees following advanced technology methods to speed up the procedures related to docking and departure of ships, raising the standard rates for loading and unloading operations, and constantly striving to reduce Overcrowding in the port with continuous preservation of the environment and full compliance with occupational safety and health standards.
