The Alexandria Port Authority received the ferries GRANDE SYEZIA and ANJI VIRTUE on Friday, March 20, 2026. These are modern Ro-Ro vessels that recently joined the global merchant fleet in 2025, reflecting the port's technical and operational readiness to receive the latest and largest maritime units of all types. Port officials received the ferries, which moored at the specialized Ro-Ro cargo berths. The berthing and securing operations were carried out according to the highest technical and navigational standards, under the direct supervision of the port's traffic and maritime services leadership. The operation involved pilots and tugboats, with close and continuous monitoring from the port's pilot tower, utilizing the latest global navigation technologies to ensure the safety of the vessels and crew and the efficiency of operations. The ferry GRANDE SYEZIA, registration number 9992622, is 220 meters long with a draft of 9.6 meters and boasts advanced operational capabilities. It belongs to the class of large-capacity car and truck carriers, with a carrying capacity of 93,000 tons. It was carrying 16 electric train cars and was equipped with solar panels covering its entire deck, contributing to reduced carbon emissions and compliance with international environmental standards issued by the International Maritime Organization. This aligns with the Egyptian government's efforts to support green maritime transport and enhance environmental sustainability in its ports. In a related development, the ferry ANJI VIRTUE, registration number 9973391, was also received. It is 200 meters long with a draft of 9.9 meters and a carrying capacity of 87,000 tons. It is worth noting that the Alexandria Port Authority recently received the WALLENIUS WILHELMSEN ferry, which is 200 meters long and 36.5 meters wide, capable of carrying 8,000 vehicles with a tonnage of up to 73,000 tons. This reflects the accelerating growth in Ro-Ro ferry traffic at the Alexandria Port Authority. The Authority confirmed that the successful reception of this modern vessel demonstrates the efficiency of the Alexandria Port's infrastructure, the development of its pilotage, towing, and berthing systems, and the readiness of its berths to receive large vessels, including specialized Ro-Ro berths. This reinforces the port's position as a pivotal hub for international trade in the Mediterranean. This event comes within the framework of the Ministry of Transport's strategy and the directives of Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Minister of Transport, to maximize the port's competitiveness, attract international shipping lines, and enhance its capacity to handle the latest generation of specialized vessels, thereby contributing to supporting the national economy and improving the efficiency of supply chains.
