The Minister of Transport, Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir witnessed the signing of the project contract for the construction of the multi-purpose station on the docks 55/62 in Alexandria Port between the Egyptian Group for Multipurpose Stations and the Al-Gharably Company for Integrated Business and IDEX International Engineering and Contracting Company. Where the Minister of Transport visited the station's site on the sidewalks and watched the arrival of the equipment for implementation In press statements, the team, Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, said that The project is considered one of the most important projects implemented by the Ministry of Transport in the field of maritime transport, given the great importance of Alexandria Port, which is one of the most important Egyptian ports because more than 60% of Egypt's foreign trade passes through Alexandria and Dekheila ports, pointing out that this project will raise the port classification, and that It will contribute to Alexandria port reception for ships of large tonnage due to the deepening of the shipping lane The port also contributes to a significant increase in the port's capabilities in terms of handling contained goods, in addition to the fact that the establishment of this station will enhance the role of the Alexandria port to be a gateway to cross European trade towards Africa and vice versa, as the station will be one of the main tributaries of the logistic station that will be established behind the port Pointing out that the project is one of the modern methods in developing ports and making the most of existing and untapped assets to avoid the state’s treasury, the cost of constructing new ports. Adding that it is considered one of the elements of the comprehensive scheme of the Egyptian seaports, whose study is nearing completion and which aims to transform Egypt into a global center for energy, trade and logistics at the regional, African and global levels. He pointed out that it is planned to finish the project in 24 months and that its cost amounts to 5 billion Egyptian pounds It is noteworthy that the Egyptian Group for Multipurpose Stations is a state-owned company in which the Alexandria Port Authority, the Suez Canal Authority and the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport, and Alexandria Containers Company, are responsible for building, managing and operating the station. The terminal berths have a length of 2450 linear meters and include trading yards of half a million square meters and can receive from 6-7 ships at the same time, and are able to handle 12-15 million tons of cargo annually that will be divided into 3 trading terminals (containers - general cargo - cars ) During his visit to Alexandria Port, the Minister also monitored the implementation rates of the multi-storey garage, which cost 407 million pounds, which is located on an area of ​​15,000 square meters and is composed of four floors (five levels) with a storage capacity of about 3500 cars.
